Top end curling is coming to Sudbury this winter - and Sudbury top end curlers will soon be making their way all over the country thanks to results from provincial championships in Ontario over the weekend.

Siblings Tanner and Jacob Horgan earned their first trip to the Tim Horton's Brier, downing Sandy MacEwan 7-5 in the NOCA fiinal Sunday in Kenora. With both teams representing the Northern Credit Union Community Centre, it was a given as Draw #15 commenced that the nickel city would clearly have a rooting interest when the Canadian men's playdown begins on March 3rd in London.

In the end, it would the Horgan lads along with Darren Moulding and Colin Hodgson who would cap off an incredible week where they battled back from the brink of elimination, qualifying through the "C" event and needing a 6-4 win over Brad Jacobs on Saturday afternoon just to earn a spot in the page format playoff.

From there, Team Horgan was rolling, tripling Kory Carr (Port Arthur) 9-3, stopping Trevor Bonot (Fort William) 7-5 in the semis and duplicating that score against Team MacEwan (Dustin Montpellier, Lee Toner, Luc Ouimet).

On the women's side of things in northwestern Ontario, it will be the very familiar face of Krista McCarville leading her rink into action at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kamloops, B.C. (February 17th - 26th).

With Sudbury native Kendra Lilly at vice and the front-end of Ashley Sippala and Sarah Potts on hand, Team McCarville posted a round robin record of 5-1 (tied with Jackie McCormick (Stratton), with the perennial powerhouse taking the 1v2 page matchup 7-4 on Saturday and then beating Krysta Burns (NCUCC) 9-4 in the championship affair.

Team Burns featured Katie Ford at vice, Sara Guy at second and Laura Masters at lead. Joining McCarville and Lilly out west will be skip Tracy Fleury (sister of the Horgan brothers), whose partnership with Rachel Homan last summer has paid immediate dividends.

Along with lead Sarah Wilkes and second Emma Miskew, Team Homan thumped Hollie Duncan 9-2 in the final of the Ontario provincials held in Port Elgin. The bonspiel also featured Sudbury curlers Kira Brunton (with skip Danielle Inglis) and Jamie Smith (with skip Isabelle Ladouceur).
