Ben Mikkelsen has proven himself as a top skip in Thunder Bay curling circles. Mikkelsen has won Northern Ontario titles at the junior level and most recently in curling club championship play.
Mikkelsen and his teammates Greg Doran and Devin Doran wore green and gold at the Canadian Curling Club Championships held in Leduc, AB in November 2019. He is also a recent past champion of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling.
Mikkelsen and his rink of the Doran brothers and Carter Morash at second is one of five teams tied for first place with 2-0 records heading into draw four of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling tonight 6:30 pm at the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club.
Mikkelsen and his Port Arthur Curling Club squad battle Dylan Johnston, the defending league champions in a showdown of two of the three undefeated teams seeing action in one of four games.
Mikkelsen will be in for a true test as Johnston and his rink of Brennan Wark, Oye Sem Won-Briand, Chris Briand and Kurtis Byrd have posted lopsided wins in their first two starts. Team Johnston are showing early they are the team to beat in their search for a second straight Tbaytel title in the local 14-team competitive loop.
The veteran Al Hackner and his rink look for a third straight win in a marquee matchup with Krista McCarville who comes into to play at 1-1. Bryan Burgess and Frank Morissette, the two other unbeaten teams have fourth round byes.
Meanwhile Mike McCarville, Dallas Burgess and Trevor Bonot are three rinks looking for their first wins of the season. McCarville takes on Jonathon Vellinga at 1-1, while Burgess and Bonot face each other.
