Congratulations to the Jeff Currie rink (Currie, Mike McCarville, Colin Koivula, Jamie Childs) from the Fort William Curling Club. Currie’s rink won the final game in the 2014 Travelers Men’s NOCA Provincial with a score of 9-4 over the Brian Adams Jr. rink (Port Arthur CC) and will now represent Northern Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier March 1-9 in Kamloops, BC.
Adams Jr. earned his spot in the final game with a 6-1 record in the round robin. After the round robin, Currie sat at 5-2, and three teams sat at 4-3; Rob Gordon (Sudbury CC), Mike Jakubo (Sudbury CC), and Dylan Johnston (Fort William CC). In the first tie-breaker Jakubo beat Johnston 7-6, and in the second tie-breaker, Jakubo prevailed over Gordon with a 7-5 win. This set up the semi-final game which was played Sunday morning between Jakubo and Currie. Currie won that round with a 6-5 victory that saw his rink steal in the 8th and 10th ends.
Currie then met Adams in the final game Sunday afternoon and earned the provincial title over Adams Jr. with steals in the 5th, 6th, and 7th ends.
Thanks to Travelers, the sponsor of this event, and a great supporter of curling in Canada.
Thanks to the McIntyre Curling Club provincial Chair and his committee and the volunteers and staff for hosting a great event. The support of all the local sponsor is greatly appreciated.
