The Northern Ontario Curling Association and the Blind River Curling Club have recognized Cathy and Jerry Jensen with a volunteer award. The honour was presented at the 2022 annual Iron Broom Bonspiel on October 1st.
Cathy and Jerry have been the heart and soul of the Blind River Curling Club for many years and, additional to being regular curlers, have embedded their fingerprints on every aspect of the club including major fundraisers and responding to all other arising needs.
Jerry was previously the president for many years, is the active ice maker, looks after the physical maintenance of the club and would check on the facility multiple times each week during pandemic lockdowns.
Cathy is the secretary for the club, volunteers at the bar, organizes the yearly deep cleaning, orders food and operates the kitchen for bonspiels, runs the "Little Rockers" and "Learn to Curl" programs, and generally keeps the board focused and in line. During the pandemic, Cathy was additionally responsible for applying for grants and was successful in securing over $300,000.
