To the point: everything you need to know about COVID-19 and playdown competitions

For those of who like your information to the point, here is everything you need to know about what NOCA has decided in regards to the 2020-21 playdown competitions season thus far:

All playdown events have been recalled from their originally assigned host clubs. If competitions take place they will likely be in different locations, on different dates and using different formats than originally set out. If you’re looking at a competitions schedule dated 2020-21 it is now obsolete.
Absolutely no competitions will take place in the year 2020.
It is highly unlikely that there will be qualifying events for any category of playdown competition (rather there would simply be an open registration for provincials).
For competitions that lead to a national championship this curling season a decision will be made by December 3rd, 2020 at the latest. In the event that competitions cannot be held safely, then the results of the most previously completed competition will be used to determine NOCA’s representation at national events.
For competitions that do not lead to a national championship, given that NOCA could host a provincial championship as late as the end of the season, a decision is likely to be deferred for as long as possible in hopes that an improved public health situation will allow for events to be organized.
For competitions that lead to a national championship in the fall of the next curling season it is possible that provincial championships could be be postponed from the spring of 2021 to the fall of 2021.
The last thing that NOCA wants to do is to take away the opportunity for Northern Ontario’s athletes to compete, however we have committed to following the advice of our government and public health officials who currently recommend that competitions not be hosted in an effort to reduce non-essential travel and intermingling of 50-person cohorts.
